EMDR Therapy and Hypnosis
What is EMDR
EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a groundbreaking form of psychotherapy. Unlike traditional methods that can take years, EMDR often resolves longstanding issues in just a few sessions. It combines with hypnotherapy in the Healing Trauma Process to enhance outcomes, offering significant relief quickly.

EMDR originated from eye movement trauma techniques used by the NLP movement in the 1960s. Dr. Francine Shapiro discovered its effects in 1987. While walking in a park, she noticed that her troubling thoughts became less disturbing as her eyes moved back and forth. Her subsequent research with Vietnam War veterans and other trauma survivors confirmed EMDR's effectiveness. Today, EMDR is recognized by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK.
How Does EMDR Work?
EMDR not only desensitizes painful memories but also fosters healthier self-perceptions. For example, a thought like "I'm worthless" can transform into "I'm deserving of love and respect."
The exact mechanism is still under study. Traumatic experiences are stored differently in the brain compared to neutral memories. EMDR helps process these memories, reducing their emotional impact and integrating them in a healthier way. Researchers believe EMDR mimics brain activity during REM sleep, a phase where we resolve conflicts and process information. This "nudges" the brain to reprocess and integrate traumatic material, enabling emotional healing.

Success Stories
(NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED)
Francis's Story

Francis, a construction worker who migrated from Kenya a decade ago, faced anxiety and depression after feeling rejected by his family for not being able to send money home. During EMDR therapy, he focused on his anxiety and physical sensations while following hand movements with his eyes. By the end of a 60-minute session, his feelings of guilt and hurt shifted to positive emotions. In the next session, Francis reported feeling much less anxious and more optimistic about his future.
Susan's Story

Susan sought therapy for long-standing depression and constant worry about her 14-year-old daughter, an IVF baby she cherished deeply. Her childhood experiences of being smothered by her mother and criticized by her father left her with emotional scars. Traditional psychotherapy had not provided significant progress. However, after just two EMDR sessions, Susan noticed improvements in her self-confidence, behaviour, and outlook. Over a few months, she worked through many traumatic memories and eventually felt ready to conclude therapy, feeling and acting like a new person. Professional and caring support can help overcome challenges and achieve lasting positive change through the innovative approach of EMDR therapy.
Vishen's Story
Vishen was highly ambitious but struggled with people-pleasing tendencies and a fear of rejection, which prevented him from pursuing his dream of becoming a training coach at his company. His father’s constant criticism and beratement of his schoolwork and achievements deeply affected his self-esteem. A road accident later in life compounded his anxiety and fear of taking risks.
After just three sessions of EMDR and hypnotherapy, Vishen gained the confidence to approach his boss about becoming a training officer. We worked through other childhood traumas, and after six sessions, Vishen was promoted and enrolled in a training program to lead company sessions. His anxiety and lack of confidence dissipated, and he now feels much better about his life, with the emotional charge from past memories significantly reduced.
Q & A
What makes The Healing Trauma Process different from other approaches?
The Healing Trauma Process (THTP) stands out because it targets trauma where it is stored: in the subconscious mind. Unlike other methods that primarily engage the conscious mind, THTP addresses the subconscious, where trauma is stored and often stuck in the right hemisphere of the brain, preventing it from being processed by the logical left hemisphere. By incorporating EMDR and hypnotherapy, THTP reaches the root cause of the trauma, helping the subconscious mind feel safe and resolving the emotional charge.
Is there any scientific evidence
that EMDR works?

Yes, there is scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a psychological therapy for overcoming trauma. Research conducted by HMO Kaiser Permanente found that after just six 50-minute sessions, 77% of individuals with multiple traumas and 100% of individuals with a single trauma were no longer diagnosed with PTSD.
What clinical presentations
can it resolve?

The Healing Trauma Process can achieve excellent results for clients who are ready to let go of and resolve past trauma. Many clients have reported significant reductions in conditions related to past trauma, including complex PTSD, PTSD, anxiety disorders, fears, anger, depression, and other trauma-related issues.

HYPNOSIS
What is Hypnosis?
Surprisingly, we all experience trance states many times throughout our lives. We drift into these states during moments of deep focus, like staring into space or as we fall asleep. It's similar to daydreaming, accompanied by a pleasant sense of relaxation.

Hypnosis is a unique state of consciousness used for therapeutic purposes, allowing beneficial suggestions to be made to your unconscious mind. This state helps access your inner self, a source of both unrecognized potential and underlying issues. Importantly, no one can be hypnotized against their will, and even under hypnosis, a person can reject any suggestion if they choose. Therapeutic hypnosis is a state of cooperative engagement.
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical Hypnotherapy uses advanced hypnosis techniques to treat various medical and psychological issues. It is highly effective, with over 85% of people responding positively. It can often succeed where conventional treatments have failed.
Modern Clinical Hypnotherapy is integrative, combining elements from behavioural and cognitive psychology, EMDR, NLP, classical theories from Freud, Jung, and Adler, and contemporary brain function research. Techniques like Ego States Therapy are used as needed.
